No, I don't recall hearing anything in the boot area after doing that. I don't use the car going to work. The car's at home right now.
When you press and hold the boot release button on the keyfob what happens? Do you hear anything whirring or clicking in the boot area?

My car is not a CLK, but it has 3 ways of opening the boot. One from the electronic key, one from a button near the driver seat, and one with the mechanical key.
Are you saying that none of these work?

I've tried the mechanical key, but it still didn't open. Although I must admit I tried it only once. The mechanical key should turn easily right? The button on the panel beside the drivers seat doesn't work either.

Take the first aid kit out.
You will have an opening and your hand should fit through this.
You will feel a cable on either side, this is the cable that unlatches the rear seats.
Next I got a piece of long 1x1 piece of wood, cut a V at one end.
Now get the V on the cable and push downwards, you have to push quiet hard.
You will hear the latch release and the rear seat should be free to open inwards.
Once you have done this it will give you access to the boot.
There are 4 bolts holding the lock in place undo these and the boot will open. Look for some of my posts I have a picture of this on here somewhere.
Next spend a couple of days freeing the lock with WD40.
I just left mine in oil over the weekend, and by Sunday night the lock was OK.
Hope this helps.
Alex.

I had the same problem with my boot.
I used the same advice as from speedybiker (took a while but worked)
Once you gain access into the boot, try removing the fuses under the boot floor next to the battery (drivers side - card in lid will tell you which ones) and put them back in - this worked for me, may not work in your case, but worth a try, before trying to take your car to bits!!!!!!

A point to add though is that under the first aid kit there is a hole big enough for your hand (just about, and i've got fairly small hands!!!) but trying to get your 1x1 through here is a pain in the @r$e. Under the foam to the left is another smaller holw which is directly above the wire you need to push. stick your 1x1 through here, push down hard and within seconds, pop, your in.

Speedybiker's tip works a treat, thanks.A point to add though is that under the first aid kit there is a hole big enough for your hand (just about, and i've got fairly small hands!!!) but trying to get your 1x1 through here is a pain in the @r$e. You're brave to stick your hand in such a small whole. I'll be frightened to get my hand stuck. Just imagine what will I tell the firebrigade when phoning 999 and asking them to free me!
